Globalization… Immigration… Ethnic Conflict… 6,650 People Groups still unreached!…

Will you be part of the problem or part of the solution?

The focus of the Foundations in Intercultural Studies (FIS) is to equip followers of Jesus to work with the Father in today’s diverse and changing world. Urban centers have always been places of cultural diversity and exchange, but the rapid urbanization and globalization of the past century has produced a “coming together” of the nations like never before in history. All too often cultural diversity has led to conflict and even bloodshed. Topics like religious diversity, immigration, multi-culturalism stir up emotions and heated debate as the nations, languages and cultures of the world increasingly share the same streets. Amsterdam, one of the most diverse cities on the planet, is home to hundreds of different nationalities and cultures. What better place to learn and lay foundations for intercultural ministry!

The goal of the FIS is to train inter-cultural workers to be effective in their intercultural relationships, evangelism, discipleship, church planting, multicultural worship, and in the reconciliation of nations. The body of Christ is called to model the unity in diversity that is possible as the nations come together in Christ. As we understand God’s purposes for the nations, we can build more effective intercultural relationships and better demonstrate the Good News of Jesus to the people groups that have not yet understood it.

The FIS is the core course for several University of the Nations degree programs at the Amsterdam campus. In these programs, modern disciples are able to learn, in a field ministry setting, the knowledge, attitudes and practical skills necessary for developing a successful urban ministry that fulfills God’s calling on their lives.
