Kompassion reaches out to men and women living the gay lifestyle and to those struggling with same sex attractions.
Kompassion is a ministry that came out of the Cleft in 2004. The vision of Kompassion is to bring a message of hope and healing to those affected by homosexuality, through the compassion and transforming power of Jesus Christ. Kompassion reaches out to men and women living the gay lifestyle and to those struggling with same sex attractions.
History
Richard Oostrum is the founder and leader of Kompassion. Richard himself came to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and left the gay-lifestyle. Richard can speak from his own life; God led him on a path of healing: from a homosexual lifestyle, to being a husband and a father. The book about this path – A Guy Who Was Gay, by H. Frinsel – has been well received by many. God gave Richard the vision of reaching out to the (homo) sexually broken in 2000. Kompassion is spelled with a ‘k’ because the Lord spoke specifically to Richard about the name of the ministry:
- Kom = Dutch for come, an invitation
- Kompas = Dutch for compass, direction
- Sion = God(‘s holy mountain)
- Passion = Passion for the broken
Weekly ministry
Different activities have been developed with the goal of reaching the (homo) sexually broken:
• Teaching about homosexuality in churches, youth groups and pastoral courses
• Evangelizing the gay lifestyle
• Counseling individuals
